Ingredients

For the Dipping Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce

  • 1 tablespoon water

  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil

  • 2 teaspoons rice wine vinegar

  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds

  • 1 tablespoon white sugar

For the Wontons

  • 1 pound lean blended ground beef and pork mix

  • 1 ½ cups 3-color coleslaw mix (a pre-packaged option like Fresh Express® works perfectly)

  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced

  • ½ tablespoon freshly minced ginger

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • ½ tablespoon white sugar

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • ⅓ cup chopped green onion

  • 25 wonton wrappers (brands like Mandarin® are ideal)

  • 1 tablespoon chili oil, plus extra for serving if desired

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Start by prepping your dipping sauce: Add all sauce ingredients (soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, water, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, sesame seeds, and sugar) to a small bowl. Stir until everything is fully combined and the sugar dissolves completely, then set the sauce aside.

  2. Next, mix your wonton filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the blended ground meat, coleslaw mix, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and green onion. Stir until all ingredients are evenly incorporated, then spread a thin, even layer of filling across each wonton wrapper, all the way to the edges.

  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, then brush the base of the pan with chili oil. Place the wontons in the pan meat-side down, then brush a light layer of oil over the top of the exposed wonton wrappers. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until the bottom of the wontons turns a deep golden brown. Gently flip the wontons and fry for another 2 minutes, until the wrappers are crispy all over. Cook in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding your pan.

  4. Serve hot with extra chili oil and your prepared dipping sauce. To enjoy, fold each crispy wonton in half like a taco, dip it in the sauce, and dig in!
